7/30/10 The great weed, Charlie Brown

A few people have now seen this, even some of the people at work.  Everyone has some advice.  One thing I keep hearing over an over is that pumpkins will 'vine.'  By this I guess it means they will get bigger and go wherever the hell they want.  I think I'm OK with that.  The 'bigger' part is good (that means they are happy-and happy plants mean pumpkins) and they do have some real estate if they want to 'vine out.'  If that is the case, I hope they go east because if they decide on north or west they can only 'vine' to the point that the lawnmower advises them to stop.  Oh, and if you were wondering, there is no south, only house...

I have also been told that if I do indeed get pumpkins that I should not eat them.  I have been told that because of the weed treatment that I used to beautify my yard, i.e. turn the green things brown and remove them.  I checked the warning label on the the bottle and it says that it harmlessly breaks down in soil.  Good enough for me.  And besides, who eats pumpkins anyhow, I thought they were for carving and launching...as for the weeds it is still a battle, but for the time being, I think I'm winning.  On the right you can see one of those dastardly weeds poking through the shrub trying to get to the pumpkin patch.
