9/23/10 Evolution.

I have previously made a statement regarding the evolution of pumpkin plants.  I think I recall that the statement was negative.  I'm sure that it had something to do with pumpkin flowers only being open for a very short time.  I still feel as though this is not a great evolutionary advancement.

However, upon further reflection, I am coming to the opinion that the plants 'may' know what they are doing.  The past two days had a lot of flowers, but the girl flower didn't seem to grow at all.  I have to think that the flowers that bloomed were 'scheduled' to before the girl flower existed.  it also seems that there is another grouping of flowers that are about as far along as the girl flower.  Even though they are growing faster, they appear to have started after the girl flower.  I can only hope that there are both girl and boy flowers open on the same day.  Lets hope the pumpkins know what they are doing indeed.

It also appears that, left to its own devices, 2 will pretty much attach itself to anything.  Even itself.  Here is another of the progress of the tumor bud as well.

  1. The bud looks pretty much the same. Maybe you should measure it from time to time. It looks like a bud for a pumpkin. Are there any more of these on the stems?
