I guess today would be the pumpkins birthday. They are two months old today. I thought I would do something nice for them (and for me). First, I must say: I realize this is completely overboard, and second, have you ever heard of Rube Goldberg? He was a Jewish American cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. He is most often remembered for a series of cartoons of elaborate machines designed to do very simple tasks. I dedicate this to Rube.

The pumpkins got an entire irrigation system today. It has a timer, several hoses and a few connectors. I drilled a few holes in one of the hoses (the one designed for a washing machine) and buried the whole thing in the dirt. The timer is great; right now I have it set to run for 15 minutes a day at around 7:00am. Fifteen minutes buys me about 2-3 quarts of water and it seeps in over quite a while. Tomorrow is the first day of the new system. I hope to wake up to happy irrigated pumpkins. The rest of the contraption is a couple of hoses connected together with the holes strategically placed to get water close to the pumpkins. I even have some shut off valves to vary the pressure if need be. Lets hopes this works, either that or it was a colossal waste of time just to make mud in my side yard. Oh, and it finally gives that side yard spigot a purpose...
Maybe you could get a patent on your irrigation system.
