8/2/10 Isquotersquash

Isquotersquash or Isqoutm Squash is what the Native Americans called the pumpkin.  Like the weight of the biggest pumpkin, it appears as though no one really knows how the pumpkin got its name.  Some say the word came from the greek pepon or large melon, while others blame some French guy named Jacques Cartier for calling them 'gros melons' or translated to English as pompions which eventually evolved to pumpkins.  I wonder if the French pumpkin man had anything to do with the jeweler?  But leave it to the French to think gros is a good word for big.  It also reminds me of a big (or perhaps gros) green car I used to have that had a Cartier clock on the dashboard-that's another story though.

Anyhow, there was a bunny in my yard last night and I'm thinking rabbits may have a taste for pumpkins.  So today I became a little proactive with my pumpkin protection plan; we can't have any more leaf eating if I am to be getting pumpkins by Halloween.  I figured that rabbits (as well as other things) are scared of wolves...so...we will see if this works.

  1. The wolf is freaking hilarious. Remind me next time you stop by... I have some army men you can use to guard the pumpkins too!
