8/23/10 Birds do it...

I admit I had to do a little research to find out if humming birds pollinate pumpkin plants.  As it turns out, they do.  This led me to find a bit of discouraging news.  I know there are hummingbirds around, the neighbors have trumpet flower vines, and the hummingbirds love them.  There are also bees and lots of other bugs around all the time.

The discouraging news is that there are only two plants and I'm thinking the odds of successful pollination for a flower that only stays open for a few hours is low (and the only way to get pumpkins is for pollination to happen).  I mean, if I only have one female flower and no male flowers open for that brief time period, this experiment is over...so, I must be vigilant apparently, and 'do whatever I have to' to ensure pollination.

On a side note, A is looking nice, fresh, and bright green.  And if anyone does have a cannon for Ollie and Stew to play with, I am sure they would appreciate it (especially one that really works (that could be fun (but if it doesn't, I suppose we will make do))).
