8/25/10 'Good news everyone!'

That is to borrow a quote from a moderately famous comedy central show...Anyhow, the happy little pumpkin patch was quite windswept today.  A and 2 were both pointing the wrong way this morning.  It led me to the conclusion that maybe they could use a few stakes.  The problem is, is that I have none.  So I spent a little while today rummaging around my yard looking for a couple of twigs that might work (no luck, there are no trees).  I found that the pea pod shells from the neighbors trumpet flower vines work OK; at least till I get a more permanent solution.

The good news was that while I was out there, rearranging the pumpkins, I saw with my own two little eyes that bugs visit the flowers.  2 had a flower open today and a little ichneumonid stopped by for a visit.  Of course, I had no camera anywhere close at the time...

  1. What about that dilapidated tiki torch on your back porch? You could cut it in half and use that for a stake.

  2. We probably have some sticks you can use. I think pumpkins grow close to the ground and don't need to be staked. They look like they are reaching out to something. Maybe they are trying to reach for water.
